Frequently
Asked Questions
What types of heart conditions do you treat at Novena Heart Centre?
We provide treatment for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions — from common issues like high blood pressure, chest pain, high cholesterol, palpitations, abnormal ECG or heart rhythm to more complex conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, hypertrophic cardionmyopathy and congenital heart defects. We also offer preventive cardiology for patients at risk and post-operative follow-up care.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
No — you do not always need a referral. We welcome self-referred patients, though bringing along any existing medical records (e.g. previous test results, ECGs, imaging) helps our cardiologists better assess your condition on your first visit. If you have been referred by another doctor, please bring the referral letter for smoother coordination.
What should I bring for my first consultation?
- Identification card or passport (for verification)
- Previous medical records and reports (e.g. ECG, stress tests, imaging, lab results)
- List of current medications (name, dose, frequency)
- Any health insurance or financing documents
Having this information helps us understand your medical history and avoid unnecessary repeat tests.
Note: We provide complimentary amenities, including clean shirts, shorts, towels, socks, and track shoes, should you need to change for stress tests.
What kinds of diagnostic tests are available at the centre?
We offer a full range of diagnostic cardiac investigations, including but not limited to:
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Echocardiography (Echo) / Ultrasound of the heart
- Exercise Stress
- Echocardiography (ESE)
- Treadmill Stress Test
- Holter / Ambulatory ECG monitoring
- Ambulatory BP monitoring
- Advanced imaging (CT /
- MRI where required)
- Blood tests and lipid profiles
- Cardiac risk assessment and preventive screening
Do you offer emergency or walk-in cardiac services?
We accept walk-in appointments during office hours, but wait times may be longer if the clinic is busy. Therefore, we encourage you to call ahead to book an appointment so that dedicated timeslots for consultation and cardiac investigations can be allocated for you. However, if you are experiencing a medical emergency (e.g. severe chest pain or breathlessness, or sudden collapse) and need urgent medical attention, please call 995 or go to the nearest emergency department or urgent care centre immediately so as not to delay treatment.
Are your cardiologists experienced in treating international patients?
What insurance do you support?
For patients with insurance coverage, please bring along the necessary insurance documentation. It will be helpful to email us your insurance details before your appointment.
Do check with your insurer whether cardiac investigations and treatments are covered, as insurance plans vary in coverage. Please bring along the necessary insurance documents if available.
Do you provide follow-up care after surgery or intervention?
Yes. For patients who undergo any cardiac intervention — whether medical therapy, procedures, or surgeries — we offer comprehensive follow-up care, including checkups, medication review, rehabilitation advice, and long-term monitoring.
Can I get a second opinion at Novena Heart Centre?
Absolutely. We welcome patients who seek a second opinion on diagnosis, treatment plans, or management options — whether following treatment elsewhere or for a newly diagnosed condition. Please bring your full medical records for our assessment.
