Health Screening
Are you at risk?
If you are over 40 years of age, if you smoke, if you have a family history of heart disease or stroke, if you take part in highly strenuous endurance sports, or if you’ve been diagnosed with lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, cardiovascular screening should be part of your regular health screening routine.
Stopping disease in its tracks
We have comprehensive and sensitive screening tools that can detect the early warning signs of heart disease and other cardiovascular problems before symptoms appear and when the condition is more easily and more affordably treated. This includes detecting cholesterol deposits in the arteries of the heart and brain before they become blocked.
Don’t risk being one of the statistics
Cardiovascular disease (which includes heart attack and stroke) is the second leading cause of death in Singapore after cancer, so undergoing screening could potentially help you avoid being one of the 2,000 people in Singapore that suffer a heart attack every year.
What are Cardiogenetic Tests?
These tests analyze your DNA (your genetic code) to find specific changes (mutations or variants) that are linked to heart conditions.
In cardiogenetic tests, the analysis is on genes known to play a role in heart diseases, like those causing:
Inherited cardiomyopathies
Diseases of the heart muscle
Inherited arrhythmias
Irregular heartbeats
Familial hypercholesterolemia
High cholesterol
Aortic aneurysms and dissections
Weakening of the aorta
What to Expect:
- Sample: Usually, the test involves a blood sample.
- DNA analysis: The lab analyzes your DNA for specific genetic variants.
- Results interpretation: Results interpretation: A genetic counsellor or cardiologist will explain your results, which might be:
- Positive: A genetic variant linked to a heart condition was found.
- Negative: No known genetic variants were found.
- Variant of uncertain significance (VUS): A genetic change was found, but its impact on heart health is unclear.
- Follow-up: Depending on your results, the clinical diagnosis maybe confirmed or changed, and cascade screening can be offered to your children if you have a positive test.
- Genetic counselling: It’s crucial to have genetic counselling before and after the test to understand the implications of your results, including insurability.
